On Friday, January 12, I joined my clients, including the Coalition to Protect Prince William and the American Battlefield Trust, at the Manassas Battlefield National Park to announce our lawsuit to reverse the rezoning which permits “the world’s largest Data Center campus,” or 34 massive buildings and 20 MILLION square feet of storage space, to be built n the (formerly) Rural Crescent of Prince William County.
This land, of course, sits adjacent to the Park and swallows up battlefield property, as well as numerous other gravesites and historic places. In the suit, I called the development “a national disgrace.” Others have called it a “dystopian hellscape.” So opinions are mixed.
Here’s a video of our press conference and copy of our lawsuit.
Our relief is predicated on multiple legal violations that predated the rezoning, including failure to properly advertise or follow legal procedures. It is the largest land use case in Virginia history. For more information (or to support the Coalition), please visit their website and make a donation!
Other Announcements:
As you know, my tenure as a Virginia Senator is over but I have three major announcements reflecting new interests:
1. “The Virginia Attorney.” This year will be my 30th as a Virginia attorney. So we are launching “The Virginia Attorney,” a site with a focus on VA law and constitutional rights. There, you can access my Podcast on the U.S. Constitution and American history. Yes, this is the same course I’ve been teaching at George Mason Law school. You can hear it here.
2. “The Fairfax Independent.” Our community in central Fairfax lacks a media platform for hometown news, sports and entertainment. We can fix that. In 2024, we will be rolling out “The Fairfax Independent,” a source for independent news coverage in the central Fairfax area. If you are interested in contributing or advertising, please contact us here. Declare your independence.
3. “History Matters.” I spent 16 years faithfully writing the “State Senate Sentinel” newsletter. I didn’t throw the copy away. (In fact, you can’t). Now I am working on a straight-talking history of my years in elected office — a time in which I witnessed dramatic changes in Virginia. I plan to publish that later this year. Stay tuned.
So we have a lot going on in 2024 and we’re excited to share it with you.
